Our two day ‘extended” survival course is a dynamic combination of both traditional and modern survival, bushcraft and safety skills. Learn what to do if you get lost in the outdoors, what important survival gear you should carry, make your own primitive shelter, light a fire without matches, find water, navigate with and without a map and a compass, using effective signalling techniques for rescue and much, much more! The course content includes:- Emergency Shelter Construction, Survival Fire-lighting Skills, Friction Fire, Food and Water Procurement, Primitive Cooking, Emergency Signalling & Survival Navigation, Celestial Navigation, Emergency First Aid and Survival Equipment Selection. Basic Bushcraft Skills, Cordage, Knife & Axe Sharpening, Survival Gear, Tools and Equipment and much, much more.
Traditional Tanning, Brain Tanned Kangaroo & Rabbit skins – Hide or Buckskin – Starting with a raw kangaroo hide and fresh Rabbit skin and finishing with a soft, brain tanned hides or buckskin. This course is a practical, hands on experience of how to create a soft, wearable, durable and beautiful buckskin or hide using traditional and ancient methods. Besides Brain tanning you will also learn about Vegetable tanning, and Chemical tanning. Each step will be taught in detail so that you can take this skill home with you. Focus will be on finishing 1 hide/buckskin each, plus a tanned Rabbit skin each and learning the process. Hide tanning is a physical activity and to make your skins soft will require hard work and perseverance. You will also learn how to cut lacing, make rawhide knife sheaths, learn the history of buckskin, learn the components of skin, butcher, skin then flesh game, make a small project from leather and studs provide (ie knife sheath) and also enjoy camp cooking.
Our 2 day Longbow and Selfbow making course is a dynamic combination of both traditional and modern woodworking and crafting skills which enable you to complete your own longbow or selfbow. You will also make your own string, shoot your finished bow on our 3D Archery range, and also you can use your downtime to fish on our tidal river for your fresh fish dinner. You will also learn about the history of Archery through the ages, and learn what equipment Oetzi the Iceman carried, by seeing our own reproductions first hand. Staves of cured and prepped Nth American White Ash and all tools supplied.
ASI are proud to offer our 3 day Primitive Technology and Survival Skills course focusing on primitive living survival skills including a comprehensive flint knapping and ‘wild’ pottery course, with all materials provided, including black obsidian from the U.S.A. You will also make primitive ‘wild’ pottery, by digging your own clay, treating it, then complete your project with a unique firing process replicated from the Anasazi people of the Sth West of U.S.A. Other curriculum subjects include primitive fire methods, primitive fish hooks and fishing line, resin collection and manufacture, flint knapping, primitive cooking, primitive shelters, make primitive trap sets, live game preparation, brain tanning, fleshing and smoking, wood carving, cordage and netting, primitive water vessels, primitive fishing, celestial navigation and more…
From May 2019 ASI are proud to offer our 10 day Malaysian Jungle Survival and Tribal Living Skills course, held in 2 locations of Perak State Malaysia. Included in this unique experience are field trips to Anthropological and Historial museums, as part of the learning curriculum. Students will meet at Kulala Lumpur International Airport on the morning of May 26th 2019. Course cost does not include international airfares. Course is limited to 10 places.
In our 2-day primitive bladesmithing course, students will learn to forge a full sized field knife, roman fire steel, S-hook, and chisel & punch, as our ancestors did with simple tools, charcoal, and an earthen pit forge. This is a creative partnership between you and the primal elements of Fire, Earth, Water, and Air in the creation of custom, hand wrought, bushcraft toolse from high carbon tool steel. The Bare Bladesmithing 2-Day course does not have prerequisite requirements and is open to beginning level students without experience.
